Top teams enter quarterfinals

Cuttack, May 13: Maharashtra, Bihar and Mizoram scripted thumping victories against their respective opponents to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championship at different Grounds here Wednesday.

At the Barabati Stadium, Maharashtra thrashed Sikkim 8-0 in a Group-E match. Triga Colaco (25th, 45th, 54th) and Retika Sahani (40th, 60th, 86th) scored hat-tricks, while Bhagyashree Dalvi (23rd, 67th) scored a brace.

At the Satyabrata Stadium, Ranu scored five goals to help Haryana pummel Goa 9-0 in a Group-H match. The remaining goals were scored by Santosh (third), Ravina (eighth), Anjali (22nd) and Mona (77th).

In a Group-F match, riding on a hat-trick by Soni Kumari, Bihar trounced Tamil Nadu 5-0. Soni struck in the first, 57th and 58th minutes respectively. Priyanka Kumari (61st) and Neha Kumari (83rd) scored once each.

In a Group-G afternoon match at Barabati, Mizoram drubbed Tripura 5-0. R Venalpeki (63rd, 73rd) scored a brace, while PB Himingthanzvali (85th), Grace (89th) and Elizabeth (91st) found the back of the net once each.

Hosts Orissa will meet Mizoram May 16 in the round of eight. All the quarterfinals will be played at the Barabati Stadium.
