Sambalpur: Orissa were reduced to 122 for two in their second innings at stumps on the third day of their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy Plate Group B match against Uttar Pradesh after a century stand between the openers at the VSS Stadium here, Saturday. The hosts are still 111 runs behind the visitors’ first innings total of 460.
The hosts have to survive a day – the final day of the match, if they have to gain at least a point as UP have the upper-hand and they will definitely go for the kill.
In reply to UP’s massive first innings lead of 233 runs, Orissa replied strongly as their openers Rajesh Dhupar (50, 183b, 7×4) who scored a half century and Amrit Khatua (48 batting, 134b, 7×4) added 107 runs before Parth Mishra (2/20) removed the former.
Abhilas Semwal (four) who was sent to bat as night-watchman, couldn’t do much and got out shortly. However, Khatua and Debasish Samantray (six batting) ensured the hosts have no further hiccups on the day.
Earlier, resuming the play at 325/6, UP managed to score 460 for nine and were eventually bowled out as Mohsin Multan Khan couldn’t come out to bat due to an injury. Overnight batsman Shanu Saini (61 n o, 118b, 8×4) scored an unbeaten half century and along with Trishal Vijay Trivedi (63, 86b, 10×4, 1×6) who also scored a half century, added 110 runs for the eighth wicket.
Pappu Roy (5/105) who had bagged three wickets on the second day, completed his five-wicket haul and he was ably supported by Debabrata Pradhan (3/91).
