Tourism secy, sports minister review infra for spl fest at Konark

Konark: Tourism department secretary Vishal Kumar Dev made a field visit to Konark in the wake of the state government’s decision to host a month-long special festival on the lines of Rann of Kutch festival in Gujarat at the coastal town here.

Dev, along with Puri Collector Balwant Singh and other officials, reviewed issues related to infrastructure for the proposed festival. State Sports and Youth Services minister Tusharkanti Behera was also present during the field visit.

According to Dev, the Tourism department will put up around 50 makeshift tents to host the festival to attract more tourists to Konark. The festival will be organised on 40 to 50-acre land. A private agency would be roped in for the purpose, he said.

“The month-long festival will attract more tourists to Konark. Besides, it will help in the development of infrastructure for tourism sector,” Dev said.

According to the Tourism secretary, tourists can get accommodation, food and other facilities during the festival. “We have planned to organise cultural events like Odissi dance at the festival. Traditional handicrafts will be displayed for the tourists. Besides, a few food courts will be set up for the event. Visitors would have the opportunity to enjoy boating in the sea,” he added.
