Tresspasser immolates self fearing attack

Cuttack, June 25: A house trespasser of minority community allegedly self-immolated to escape from public humiliation when he found himself locked inside the house and cornered by locals in the holy month of Ramzan.
The shocking incident took place at Manik Ghosh Bazaar under Purighat police station here Thursday. The youth set himself ablaze after he entered the residence of an elderly woman in the wee hours and was locked from outside. Fearing attack from the locals who presumed him to be a thief, the man from West Bengal immolated himself by pouring kerosene on himself.
The deceased, identified as Sheik Zaqeer Hussain, entered the room of Tribeni Devi when she was away to fetch water from a nearby standpost. Tribeni bolted the room from outside when she spotted the youth in her house before raising an alarm and locals gathered outside. However, Sheik doused kerosene and set himself on fire fearing he might be roughed up by the locals.
Purighat police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem.
