Rayagada, June 9: A girl belonging from Dongria tribal community suffering from anemia and admitted to district headquarters hospital here Tuesday was provided treatment only after intervention of district superintendent of police.
The one-and-half-year-old girl Ani Jakesika, daughter of Bhima Jakesika of Garata village under Muniguda block was suffering from fever for last one month. Her condition became critical Monday following which her parents took her to Muniguda community health centre.
The doctors at the CHC referred her to Rayagada district headquarters hospital (DHH). The poor parents of the girl did not gather courage to ask the doctors to provide urgent treatment before shifting her to DHH. Moreover, the hospital authorities did not arrange an ambulance for her.
As a result, her parents came to Rayagada by a train and admitted her to the DHH early Tuesday morning. Though two doctors were present at the hospital, they did not provide any treatment stating they were not pediatricians.
The hospital authorities even did not allot a bed for her. Fortunately, some youths who noticed this, immediately informed the district superintendent of police K Shiva Subramani about the matter and sought his intervention.
The SP taking swift action reached the DHH within five minutes. He took up the matter with the chief district medical officer Anand Padhi. It was after his intervention, a pediatrician Dr G Venkatrabana came to the hospital and attended the girl and started treatment.
