Raisuan: Two tribal girls were allegedly deprived of getting admission in schools here in Keonjhar district. The development has cast a doubt over proper implementation of Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan in the backward area.
According to reports, Rasain and Rasai Munda, of Talakampadi in Barpal panchayat, passed Class-VII and Class-VIII respectively. The poor girls have been moving from pillar to post failing to get admission in any school.
It was learnt that some local people had taken the girls to a high school in Mahadeijoda, but the headmaster refused to admit them, on the plea that no seat was vacant for them.
Rasain has lost her father. Her mother Sanibari Munda wants to educate her. “There is no facility of residential schools for my daughter in the locality. It is not possible on my part to afford her education in other schools,” rued Sanibari.
Similarly, Rasai’s parents – Suru Munda and Birasa Munda – were upset as their daughter could not get admission in a local school. They are reluctant to send their ward to a distant school.
Asked about it, BEO Jyotirmayi Devi said they can seek admission in a school in their locality. “Action will be taken in this regard only after an investigation,” the BEO said.
Locals said the government runs Ashram schools at Baradapal and Mahdeijoda for poor tribal students. But many students fail to get accommodation facilities. It alleged the school authorities demand money for admission of students in some cases.
The locals demanded immediate action in this regard. PNN
