Tangi: A tribal woman was trampled to death by an elephant Thursday morning in Badapokhari village under Kanheipur panchayat at Tangi in Cuttack district.
Sources said the deceased Meena Singh went missing since Wednesday night. Locals found her dead body Thursday morning.
Angry over the incident, locals staged a road blockade on Tangi-Kapilas road by burning tyres disrupting vehicular movements. They demanded concrete steps by the forest department to drive away the elephants and compensation to family members of the deceased woman.
“Though a herd of elephants are camping wreaking havoc in the tribal-dominated villages under Dalijoda forest range for a long while, Dalijoda forest officials have failed to drive away the elephants,” said a local.
