Keonjhar: Thousands of local tribals staged a demonstration outside the OMC office at Daitari in support of their nine-point charter of demands Wednesday.
Under the banner of Baba Saheed Ambedkar Mines Workers’ Union, over 2,500 tribals including women converged at the OMC office and locked its gate, demanding employment to local people.
The agitators said as per the agreement of the company, local people should be given employment opportunities in OMC, apart from development of Talapada village adopted by the company.
Their other demands included a special mini-health centre at Talapada, 24X7 ambulance service, right wages and other facilities to labourers, reinstatement of retrenched labourers of Baliparbat and Talapada, immediate measures for improvement of primary education in the area and provision of technical training for locals youths.
Bidyadhar Dehuri, president of Adivasi Surakhya Manch, held talks with Shiv Sundar Barik, the regional manager of OMC.
Barik assured the agitators that appropriate steps will be taken on their demands in 14 days after holding talks with two private agencies engaged by OMC. PNN
