Bhubaneswar: Noted environmentalist and innovator Trilochan Sahoo, popularly known as the state’s ‘Tree Man’, is set to receive a national award for his innovative contribution to school safety and disaster management awareness.
The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has selected Sahoo for the award in recognition of his work in implementing disaster management guidelines under the School Safety Policy through the innovative concept of a ‘School Safety Wall’. According to a communication from NIEPA, the award will be presented during a two-day programme scheduled to be held in New Delhi September 2 and 3. Sahoo will attend the programme and receive the honour.
Sahoo’s initiative focuses on creating awareness about school safety and disaster preparedness among students, teachers, parents and the wider community. Through awareness programmes, training sessions and the School Safety Wall initiative, he has directly and indirectly engaged thousands of students, teachers, parents and community members. Expressing his views on the recognition, Sahoo said, “I am always engaged in doing some new and innovative work to reach more and more communities and help solve their problems.”
