Bhubaneswar, July 31: Tropical cyclone Komen, which made landfall in Bangladesh Thursday, weakened into a depression Friday. The system would trigger extremely heavy rainfall over northern parts of the state in the next 24 hours.
“The deep depression over Bangladesh lay centred 320 km northeast of Balasore at 5:30 pm Friday. The system would move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually,” stated a Met update on the cyclonic system.
The Meteorological Centre here has predicted rain or thundershower at most places over the state with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places and extremely heavy rainfall over northern pockets of Orissa in the next 24 hours.
The sea will remain rough to very rough. Squally surface winds of speed up to 45 km will prevail off Orissa coast.
The Met Centre has still sustained local cautionary storm warning III at all four ports of the state.
Despite of the cyclonic system, deficient rainfall continued to hound state with only Dhenkanal receiving rainfall, which was a mere 2 mm, in the past 24 hours.
The skies over the capital city and its neighbourhood will remain cloudy with moderate rain over the twin cities in the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature would be around 28 and 24 degree Celsius over the city Saturday.
