Baghiapada: Even four days after the heroic deed of a pair of three-year-old twins (Sumant and Kaushalya) who rescued their two-month-old twin brothers from their burning house in Bijamiari village under Ambajhari panchayat in Boudh district, the district administration has been sitting idle without helping the family.
The homeless family is now taking shelter under a polythene sheet with no one to help them. Not even a single government official has visited the family. Now, the twins are trembling in bone chilling cold under the polythene sheet.
The incident outraged locals who condemned the irresponsibility of the officials concerned. They demanded that the administration should recognise the bravery of the twins and felicitate them. They also demanded immediate steps to rehabilitate the courageous twins and their family and provide them with a house under government schemes.
According to reports, the house of Jaya Mallick and his wife Sabitha caught fire at noon while the duo was away in the forest for work. They had asked Sumant and Kaushalya to take care of their newborn twin brothers. It was not immediately known how the fire broke out but it soon engulfed the house and reduced it to ashes. The twins showed exceptional bravery and carried out their twin brothers before they could fall victim to the fire.
The family, however, has been rendered homeless as their belongings worth lakhs were destroyed. They were left without a roof above their head as the depression over the Bay of Bengal brought rains to the state.
Locals demanded that the family should be provided immediate relief. The family has shifted to a tent with polythene roofing for now.
Even though the children pulled off a remarkable act of bravery the administration has failed to recognise it and provide them shelter. The family is now not in a position to take solace in the fact that the children were saved as they are now shelterless and without belongings. PNN
