Kantapada: Two persons were killed and two others sustained injuries in separate road accidents here Sunday. The deceased were identified as Biswajit Mohapatra (22) of Kharibili in Niali police limits and Bijay Kumar Panda (50) of Yauborai in Gobindapur police limits.
According to sources, Panda was returning home from a market on his bicycle when he suddenly came in front of a car. The car driver got nervous and inadvertently stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake hitting Panda severely.
The collision was so severe that Panda was blown into the air and hit against a coconut tree on landing. He was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in the same car, but doctor pronounced him dead.
In another incident, Mohapatra was on his way to home on his motorcycle after dropping his sister at Bhubaneswar railway station when he collided head-on with a sand-laden truck near Barahipur on Phulnakhara-Niali road. He died on the spot.
On the other hand, Zilla Parishad member Kailash Maharana and his associate Pabani Barik sustained injuries after being hit by a motorcycle at Bairoi market.
