Puri: In a joint operation conducted by the Baselisahi and Kumbharpada Police Stations, two dreaded criminals were arrested from the Baselisahi and Talabania areas respectively in this district late Monday night. The accused have been identified as Biswaranjan Sahu alias Bisu and sand mafia Siyamat Khan alias Tiki Mian.
According to the police officials, they received tip-offs regarding the presence of the anti-socials in Baselisahi and Talabania areas. Two separate teams were formed comprising personnel from the Baselisahi and Kumbharpada Police Stations. Raids were subsequently concluded.
The criminals, Bisu and Tiki Mian opened fire on the police in their bid to escape. In retaliation, police also fired and in the process both Bisu and Tiki Mian sustained bullet injuries on their legs. They were then arrested.
The duo was initially admitted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their conditions deteriorated.
Police seized pistols, live bullets and a bike from their possession. More than 10 criminal cases are pending against the two at various police stations, said police.
