Bhubaneswar, August 10: Students in the city can look forward to two events that offer learning and some stiff competition. Xavier School of Sustainability under Xavier University Bhubaneswar is conducting its annual three-days XUB Sustainability Summit from August 11–13 on XIMB and XUB campuses. And Tata Consultancy Services is organising the TCS IT Wiz 2016 technology quiz in the city August 26.

The XIMB event this year is themed ‘Energy, Peace and Global Governance’. Experts and scholars from around the country and abroad are to participate in the summit.
Sujata Pati, a member of faculty, sustainability, said: “The key objective of this summit is to put energy and peace at the centre of discourse and to create a platform at XUB for institutional network. The summit is important against the background of the United Nations having adopted in 2015-17 sustainable development goals where SDG 7 is devoted to achieving affordable and clean energy.”

Resource persons from USA, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar and Dubai are expected to participate in the event. It will also feature representatives from companies such as Wipro, Tata Steel, Tata Sustainability Group, Aditya Birla, Nalco, and Bharat Petroleum besides those from government and non-government organisations such as UNGCL, GRI and UNICEF .

“The summit will help promote peace and equitable consumption of energy and natural resources,” Professor Paul Fernandes, the director of XIMB, said.
The event is to be formally inaugurated by governor SC Jamir, Friday.
The TCS quiz, in turn, is open to students of Classes VIII-XII from city schools. Institutions interested in the competition can send multiple teams of two members each.

According to a statement, the quiz will focus on topics including application of information technology across sectors, technology environment, new trends and legends, emerging areas such as cloud computing, telecom, biometrics, robotics, internet, unique websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, and areas in which IT has made an impact, among other things.

Participants will first need to take a written test and six teams will be selected for regional finals. If more than one team from a school qualifies, only the top scoring one will be invited to compete.

Winners at the regional finals will contest at the mega finals in Mumbai in December. The winning team and an escort will be flown to Mumbai, the release stated.

Interested institutions need to send entries on or before August 23 to KaliprasadTripathy, TCS IT Wiz Coordinator. For further details, contact: 09238301950. Information and registration facility are also available online at ‘tcsitwiz.com’.
