Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: Two persons were arrested Sunday for allegedly duping at least three engineering graduates with job promises.
Rajendra Giri, 26, a native of Balasore, and Rohit Kumar, 27, a native of Calcutta, would entice engineering graduates by posting job vacancies in private firms on internet or websites such as Quickr, according to police.
“The two extracted around Rs 3 lakh from different candidates who approached them online. They would ask them to pay in installments,” said Vanita, the investigating officer, Capital police station.
V Dheer Nagaraju, an engineering graduate and native of East Godavari district, had come across one vacancy in a company called Cuttack Consultancy service and applied for the post. Later, when the two asked him to pay money in installments, Nagaraju suspected something was amiss.
Nagaraju, who had come to the city from Andhra Pradesh to pay Rs 10,000 to the accused to get the job, informed the police who laid a trap and caught the accused redhanded near Rajmahal square. Cases under section 420 (cheating) and 34 (act committed by several persons) were registered against the accused.
