Two held with 20.7 kg ganja

Bhubaneswar: In a late-night crackdown, Commissionerate Police arrested two youths from Bharatpur area and seized 20.7 kg of contraband ganja from their possession, the police said Sunday. Acting on a tip-off about illegal storage and sale of ganja behind Malima Temple at G A Colony under Bharatpur police limits Saturday night, a special team raided the spot and apprehended the accused along with the contraband and other incriminating materials.

The arrested persons have been identified as Santosh Kumar Jena (20) and Raja Behera (23), both residents of Ganjam. Police said the accused had allegedly procured the ganja from Kandhamal with the intention of selling it to local dealers. Apart from the ganja, two mobile phones were also seized from their possession.

Based on sufficient prima facie evidence, a case has been registered and both the accused have been forwarded to the court. Further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the illegal trade.
