Anandapur/Rupsa: Two persons including a minor boy was killed in two separate incidents of lightning in Keonjhar and Balasore districts, Monday. A minor boy studying in ClassII was killed after lightning struck him while returning home from school at Jalsarpur village under Nandipada police limits under Anandapur sub-division of Keonjhar district. The deceased was identified as Rajesh Behera, son of Manguli Behera in the village. One of his classmates accompanying him sustained minor injuries in the calamity.
In the second incident, a farm labourer was killed in lightning strike at Rahimpada village under Sadar block in Balasore district, Monday. The deceased was identified as Akrura Das, 48, of the village. After lightning struck him while he was working on a farmland, locals rescued him in critical condition and rushed him to Basta community health centre. The doctors there pronounced him dead on arrival. Basta police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for postmortem. Locals have demanded financial assistance for the bereaved family members as they are poor.
