Bhubaneswar: The Centre has announced two new national highways (NHs) of around 100-km stretch each for Orissa.
“Responding to pleas of the state government, the Centre has announced NH-55 and NH-20 for Orissa. Highway No.55 will be laid in the state and part of Highway No.20 will pass through three coastal districts,” a senior official of Works department told Orissa POST Wednesday.
NH-55 will originate from NH-53 near Sambalpur, connect Redhakhol, Angul, Banarpal, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Balikuda and culminate at Naugaon.
Similarly, NH-20 will originate from NH-31 near Bakhtiyarpur in Bihar, connect parts of Jharkhand and touch Orissa near Parsora (Keonjhar), the official said, adding, the highway will also connect Kendujhargarh, Panikoili, Kuakhia, Jajpur, Aradi, Chandbali, Raj Kanika and terminate at Satabhaya in Kendrapara district. The length of each NH (in Orissa) will be approximately 100 kilometres.
“The state government will extend all support for early completion of the projects,” the official stated.
The national highway will be built on a priority basis between two districts – Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur– which do not have NH connectivity.
Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari announced seven NH projects are for Orissa in July. The projects include 400-km road in Palasa (Andhra) – Paralakhemundi –Ramanaguda–Bissamcuttack–Muniguda – Bhawanipatna – Patnagarh, Padmapur (Orissa)– Chhattisgarh (to link up with NH6), Bhubaneswar –Athagarh –Shankarpur –Mahidharpur –Badkera joining NH 42 (150-km), Naranpur (Keonjhar), Kamakhyanagar-Parjang Khadagprasad (140-km),
Cuttack –Chandbali-Dharma-Bhadrak-Anandpur (190km), Badkera (Angul)-Hindol-Dasapalla-Bhanjanagar (120-km), Nayagarh-Jankia-Chandpur (140-km), Bolangir-Patnagarh-Harishankar- Nrusinghnath-Paikmal-Nuapada (130-km).
