Bhubaneswar: Senior officials of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), led by its Vice-Chairman, Krishan Kumar, inspected the proposed site for the depot-cum-bus-terminal at Patia Monday. Recently, the BDA has taken possession of the land for the development of the transport hub.
It may be mentioned here that before hosting the Odisha Men’s Hockey 2018 event, the city would be having a fleet of 200 new buses to run on various routes to ease public transport problems. To make the operation smooth and efficient, two depot-cum-terminals are being planned at Patia and Patrapada, respectively.
Each one would have space to park 100 buses. These new facilities will have separate areas for workshop, washing, fuelling, administration and parking.
Broadly, the workshop area will include office, store area, tool and yard room, battery room, unit overhauling rooms, JIB crane with electric host, toilet and utilities, repair bays, repair points, oil storage, tyre stores, air compressor room, painting and denting section, etc.
While in washing area there would be a washing ramp, the administration area will include administrative office, crew rest room, toilets and utilities. Parking area, on the other hand, will include space for staff parking and bus parking, etc.
In a joint eviction drive May 8, the Central Enforcement Monitoring Committee (CEMC) consisting of officials and staff of BDA, BMC, General Administration (GA) department, Bhubaneswar-Puri Transport Services (BPTS) and Commissionerate Police reclaimed an area of more than 6.5 acres for development of the depot-cum bus terminal.
In a joint eviction drive, the CEMC May 11 had carried out the final demolition work to free over 5 acres of prime land for development of a depot-cum-bus terminal at Patia.
The eviction drive at Plot No 548 & 1452 in Mouza Patia under Infocity police limits started at about 10.30 am and continued till late afternoon. The requisition for the eviction was made by General Manager (P&A), BPTS vide letter No 87, February 21 this year. During the eviction process, seven temporary houses with asbestos roof were demolished.
