Dhenkanal: Town police busted a two-wheeler theft racket as it detained three minors in this connection during a raid Sunday.
Police rescued nine two wheelers including some scooters and motorcycles. Among the detainees two of them are students of plus two courses in Gobindpur College. The matter came up before police after 12 two-wheelers were stolen in quick succession from Dhenkanal town during last three months.
Town police registered a case and started an investigation when it learnt that the the number plate of a stolen scooter is being changed on roadside about 50 mtrs from the town bus-stand. It immediately raided the place and detained two minors from the spot and seized the scooter.
The seized scooter belongs to one Satya Narayan Bhuyan of Amalapada which was stolen from the bus-stand December 28.
The minors were taken for questioning where they admitted to their crime. They also claimed they sit by the Kunjakanata pond in the town and prepare their plan for the next theft.
Later a team led by Town police IIC Abhinav Dalua raided Kanchan Bazaar, Dakhina Kali road and Amlapada areas in the town and recovered 12 stolen two-wheelers. The seized vehicles include five Honda Activa scooters for motorcycles of various brands. The minors are residents of various areas in Dhenkanal town.
