Cuttack: An e-lobby of a nationalised bank was gutted in fire at Ganesh Market in Badambadi police limits here Monday.
The fire broke out at the e-lobby of UCO Bank in the evening. On being informed, the fire fighters of Buxibazar rushed to the spot and doused the fire. While the e-lobby was completely burnt in the fire, the machines installed there are safe, bank sources said.
The fire service officials suspect the fire broke out due to electric short-circuit. The estimated loss in the fire was worth Rs 1 lakh.
Sources said the e-lobby has an ATM, cash and cheque deposit machines and a passbook printing machine. Some people noticed smoke coming out of the e-lobby at around 5pm and alerted the fire fighters.
They broke open the glass doors and doused the flames. The e-lobby is located on the ground floor of a four-storeyed building. Panic gripped the locals after the fire. The ATM and cash deposit machine had cash worth Rs 16 lakh, said leading fireman RK Sahu.
