Bhubaneswar: The state government has now communicated to the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas that the states have little role to play in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and there have been gaps between the KYC completion and connection issued time period.
In a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry MM Kutty recently (August 4), the state Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said, “The design of the scheme is such that the role of the state government is quite limited and the main work has to be carried out by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) for its successful implementation.”
The letter from the state government while pointing out the time lag between completion of the Know Your Customer (KYC) process and issue of the connection said that the OMCs need to expedite their work to improve the success of the scheme in the state.
The Chief Secretary also suggested the ministry to increase the number of dealers in the state to increase the connectivity to the beneficiary consumers who are entitled to free LPG gas connections under the scheme.
The state also said that the incentives given for completion for the documentation process should be utlised well to expedite the documentation process relating to releasing the gas connections under the scheme.
The state has been given the target of 3,45,168 gas connections under the scheme. The state apprised the ministry that around 75 per cent KYC process has been completed while 42 per cent of the identified beneficiaries have been given the connection under the scheme.
