Bhubaneswar, March 17: The arrest of alleged criminals Santosh Kumar Behera and Manoranjan Kumar Khatua, has put the authorities at the Utkal Karate School (UKS) in a spot of bother, as the two used to carry out their physical training activities there. Incidentally, the two are said to have close links with arrested former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena.
Alerted at the sudden development, the management of the school is determined to weed out suspicious characters within the ranks of the trainees and also to put in place methods that will prevent criminals from getting an entry into the club in future.
Talking about these recent developments, Hariprasad Patnaik, secretary of Utkal Karate School stated Thursday that the two alleged criminals were not long-time students of the school. “They were rarely in attendance here. At the most they have attended 20-25 classes. I don’t remember seeing them myself,” stated Kato da, as Hari is popularly known. “They may have taken admission either in October and November, last year,” he added.
The seniormost teacher of the school however, is determined to prevent the recurrence of such events in future where criminals will sneak in and train at the organisation premises.
“I had written a letter to the previous Police Commissioner that every gym and physical training institute should submit the ID proofs of the new admissions at the nearby police stations. This will verify their credentials,” stated Hari.
“Now I have decided to send the photocopies of the IDs of every new admission to the local police station. Also the management has decided to put up CCTV cameras inside the training facilities to keep a close watch on the activities of the students.”
