Bhubaneswar: Utkal Karate School, Bhubaneswar is all set to host the National Sub-Junior and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2016 organised by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in association with Orissa Weightlifting Association (OWA), November 29-December 5.
Above 400 weightlifters from the country are expected to participate in the seven-day event. Approximately 100 officials are also expected to be present and officiate the event.
The tourney will see 12 sub-junior categories for boys and girls, 53 and 29 junior segments for men and women respectively. UKS secretary Hari Patnaik has been appointed as the director of the competitions while Chittaranjan Swain and Narayan Sahu have been appointed as the treasurer and national co-ordinator respectively.
Orissa will be represented by a 40-member strong contingent including lifters, their coaches and officials.
Meanwhile Patnaik informed that the total expenses for hosting the event will be close to `30 lakhs. He also stated that double Asiad bronze medal winner Kunjarani Devi of Manipur will be present during the seven-day event to encourage the lifters.
