Malkangiri: Armed Maoists stormed a road construction site and set ablaze around 10 vehicles and machines kept at the camp of an agency, the police said Monday.
The incident took place Sunday night at Andrahal near Bonda ghat under the jurisdiction of Mudulipada police station in Khairaput block, they said.
The Maoists ransacked the construction camp, and set afire earthmovers, tractors, vans, a roller and a mixer machine, a police officer said.
A police team has been sent to the site to investigate the matter, Malkangiri superintendent of police (SP) Jagmohan Meena said.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and the police have started combing operation in the area, he said.
According to reports, the vehicles were engaged for construction of a road connecting Mudulipada and Andrahal under the roads and buildings department and kept at Mudulipada camp.
Nearly 50 Maoists reached the camp in the night and questioned the personnel present at the camp as to why the construction has not been stopped despite repeated warnings.
The construction workers said they were not told by anyone to stop the construction.
Later, the ultras locked all the workers of the camp inside a room and torched the vehicles. PNN
