Unable to pay exam fee, college student hangs self

Buguda, Nov 19: In a shocking incident, a college student, unable to pay his examination fees, reportedly committed suicide at Talashakar under Buguda police station in Ganjam district, Thursday morning.

Srikant Jena (17) was a second year student of Plus-II Science at People’s College here. According to his family members, Srikant had asked his mother for Rs 680 to be paid to the college authorities towards final examination fee. However, his mother expressed her inability to afford the fee.

He was depressed over the denial. When no was around the house in the morning, Srikant hanged himself from a ceiling fan.

However, no police complaint has been filed in this regard as yet.

According to sources, Srikant’s father deserted his family about 10 years ago. His mother Rajan Jena has been working as a daily wager. She along with her three sons has been leading a miserable life. Elder son Srikant had managed to study up to Plus II but could not complete his study for financial constraint.

His two siblings are now studying in Class V and Class X. The incident has sent shockwaves across the area.        PNN
