Unclaimed body of man cremated by NAC staff

Bijepur: Local community health center and NAC staff on behalf of the district administration cremated the body of an elderly person Thursday as his relatives refused to do so Thursday.

This incident was reported from Kharmunda village under Bijepur block in Bargarh district.

Sana Meher (65), a diabetic patient, died on Wednesday midnight after being admitted at the Bijepur community health center (CHC) for the last 15 days.

As he had no children and his wife had since long died, his relatives were informed. No one came to claim the body and cremate him.

Later, after the direction of the district administration, the CHC staff Debendra Pradhan and Rakesh Shandha, NAC employees Jaysingh Chhatar and Guddu took the body to the cremation ground. In the presence of NAC executive officer Bishnupriya Mishra, block development officer (BDO) Padmanava Samantaray, CHC head Dr Radheshyam Agrawal and other officials, Sana’s last rites were performed with all the necessary rituals.
