Bhubaneswar, July 26: Underprivileged children living in slums in the city had a fun outing Sunday afternoon when they were taken by an NGO to a theatre where they watched the latest Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
The cross-border movie, which has set box office records in the country and abroad, was watched by 120 underprivileged children at the Kesari theatre in the city. The outing was organised by We4You, a child welfare organisation.
Around 10 young volunteers from the NGO accompanied the children to the theatre.
“It was an initiative on our part to bring a smile on their faces. Many of these children are deprived of the basic joys of childhood and live in very challenging conditions. We tried to give them something to be happy about. Our endeavour is to help them in whatever way possible so that they prosper in life,” said Swikruti Mohanty, member of the NGO.
Educational programmes for orphans, making audio-books for visually-challenged children, and sponsoring needy children are some of the initiatives organised by the NGO as part of their child welfare activities, Mohanty said.
The children could not stop raving about how good the movie was. “It was a nice experience coming to a theatre to watch a Salman Khan movie. Many of my friends were also in the theatre and I enjoyed the movie a lot. We don’t go to theatres too often so this was a nice experience,” said Seema Biswal, one of the children.
