Union Bank staffers robbed of Rs 35 lakh in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: In an unfortunate incident Tuesday afternoon, a gang of unidentified miscreants allegedly looted Rs 35 lakh at gun point from two staffers on their way to Union Bank, Laimura branch at Pipalkhunti area under Kuchinda police limits in Sambalpur district.

According to police sources, the incident took place when six bike-borne youths intercepted the vehicle in which the employees were returning to the branch. The miscreants snatched a bag containing the cash and fled from the spot soon after committing the crime.

On being contacted, branch manager Alok Patel said, “The employees were bringing requisite cash from the main branch of the Union Bank here. Some miscreants looted the cash from them on gun point midway. We have lodged a FIR with Kuchinda police station”.

Acting on the FIR, police have launched a manhunt to nab the wrongdoers. Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh and Kuchinda sub-divisional police officer have been looking after the probe.

“Proactively, we have been investing into the loot case under direct supervision of SP and hopeful that the culprits involved in this incident will be arrested soon,” said Kuchinda IIC Rajkishor Mishra.
