Nayagarh: Locals demanded stringent action against the unqualified doctors, unregistered clinic owners and persons involved in activity like illegal abortion. Officials concerned have been apathetic to such sensitive issues, many local residents alleged Monday.
A number of unregistered clinics have been operating in Nayagarh district, in the absence of timely administrative action, they said.
One such health facility named Balaji Clinic located near community health centre (CHC) at Khandapada town in Nayagarh had been providing healthcare services sans a valid registration certificate.

According to a source, owner of the Balaji Clinic Trinath Barik died eight months ago. For apparent reasons, the registration obtained earlier became invalid following his demise. However, the clinic continued to operate as before, which was sealed Saturday after two consecutive cases of illegal abortion surfaced in Nayagarh town.
On being contacted, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO)-Family Welfare Subash Chandra Nayak said, “We will inform the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) regarding demands made by local residents for stringent action against illegal activities in healthcare sector.”
The Health department higher-ups will take appropriate steps at their ends, as they deem fit and necessary, Nayak further said.
Notably, 14 private hospitals and clinics were accorded permission to provide healthcare services in Nayagarh district. After Anand Bhawan Aditya Hospital & Clinic and Balaji Clinic were recently sealed on charge of carrying out illegal abortion and not having valid registration respectively, only 12 others are operating with proper certificate.
