Unusual love story set on a train trip

Bhubaneswar: Sometime a journey can change a person’s life. The Sushant Kumar Satpathy play titled Howrah-Puri Express being presented by Arpana Production dwells on this theme. The play depicts the usual love story between a man and a woman in an unusual circumstance, a train journey.

The drama was written by Satpathy and directed by him. Many times people face situations that can change their life positively or negatively. In the play the character Bikash and Suman, the lead character, were going home to Puri from Howrah by train for a marriage, but at the station a tout, played by actor Bidhanshu cheats both by selling them a fake ticket.

During the journey both get close and understand each other. In the end Bikash comes to know that Suman is the woman whom he is going to marry as he had agreed to the marriage without seeing the bride. Director Satpathy said the play tells the story of two individuals who don’t know about the marriage as both of them had agreed to it without seeing each other. In the story we tried to present how love can blossom during a journey. We also tried to show that not all men are bad and that sometime people help each other without any evil intention. Roshan, who played the character Bikash, said the drama depicts the coming of age of two persons and any youngster can connect to it. Four theatre artistes were fe- licitated on the occasion for their contributions in the field of theatre. They are Keshab Mallick (theatre director), Bhaswati Basu (actor), Banchanidi Patnaik (make-up artiste) and Srikanta Mishra (actor).
