Unwell Dutee, Srabani skip 100m events

Bhubaneswar:  Due to poor health ace sprinters of Orissa Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda could not take part in the woman’s 100 metres event of the 57th National Senior Inter-State Athletic Meet at Acharya Nagarjuna University Ground in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Monday.

“Dutee is suffering from viral fever. So she had to skip her favourite event. Similarly Srabani could not take part in the event due to a strained muscle. Both are now taking rest after consulting with the doctor during the competition,” stated Orissa Athletic Association(OAA) official Prabodh Mohanty.

It was a rude jolt to the ambition of Dutee for making it to the World Athletics Championships in London as she was forced to skip the event.

OGP get walk over

OGP got walk over in a match of the FAO Ist Division League as their opponent Lalbag Club did not turn up at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Monday.

Two matches will be played Tuesday. Sunrise Club will meet OGP in the first match, while Sports Hostel will face Rovers Club in the second match.

Football tourney

Unit VI Athletic Association (UAA) will organise the 29th Bhubaneswar Inter-School football tournament here starting in the first week of August. “Interested schools should contact UAA office immediately,” stated UAA president Tapan Kumar Mohanty through a press release Monday.

Selection camp

Sixty participants took part in a selection camp at the Utkal Karate School, organised by Orissa Powerlifting Association here Sunday for the National Senior Powerlifting Championship to be held in Kerala, August 14-19. International powerlifters like Sangita Singh, Devi Singh, Laxmimani Singh, Chandrabadani Singh, Priyadarshan Bishoi, Taran Deep Singh and Rakesh Bhukta are part of the camp among 48 male and 12 female powerlifters. Twenty officials are conducting the camp.
