Kakatpur: A villager lost his life as he was struck by lightning amid the Nor’wester rain in Mahadevbasta village under this block in Puri district Sunday. He was Debendra Swain.
The incident occurred while he had been to the fields to relieve himself in the morning. Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface winds and lightning hit the village.
Family members rescued him in an unconscious state and rushed to Kakatpur government hospital. Doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
Swain belonged to a poor family and was its sole bread-earner. Locals pleaded for immediate release of compensation to the family as per government norms.
