Villagers lock down school demanding transfer of teachers

Thakurmunda: Residents of Dubapali village under Jaraka panchayat in Thakurmunda block of Mayurbhanj district locked down the upper primary school there Tuesday demanding the transfer of two schoolteachers.

The villagers have been demanding the immediate transfer of principal of the school Sabitakant Soren and assistant teacher Sapan Kumar Mohanty alleging that both of keep themselves engaged in personal work during office hours and rarely attend school.

Tuesday, they locked down the school’s classrooms demanding immediate administrative intervention, said a source. Earlier, they had approached the block education officer (BEO) and the district collector, however, no action has been taken, the villagers alleged. They further threatened to keep the classrooms locked until a solution is found.

The students, meanwhile, attended to their classes on the verandah.

On being informed, the assistant block education officer (ABEO) reached the school and tried to pacify the protestors. The issue, however, could not be sorted since the villagers were adamant on their demand and the absence of the BEO.
