Cuttack: A day after a female doctor of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR), Burla was found dead near a temple in Madhupatna police limits here, the police Friday said that she might have committed suicide.
The deceased, Sasmita Biswal, was an assistant professor of pharmacology department of VIMSAR.
“It is clear that the lady doctor was under depression and might have committed suicide by injecting high dose of vecuronium injection. However, we are waiting for the post-mortem report,” the police said. Meanwhile, the post-mortem of the body was conducted at SCB Medical College and Hospital Friday and the body was handed over to the family members.
According to sources, Biswal came to Cuttack on leave November 25. She was supposed to rejoin duty Thursday. She prepared breakfast for her family Thursday morning. After her younger son went to school, she left home at 11.30am.
However, she did not go to Burla, claimed her husband Sukanta Kumar Mohanty.
“In January last year, we lost our elder son and my wife was under severe depression since then. Meanwhile, she was transferred to VIMSAR from SCB. She was staying alone and going through mental trauma,” Mohanty said. She had earlier attempted suicide once, he added.
Notably, the body of the lady doctor was found near Panchamukhi Hanuman temple in Madhupatna police limits Thursday evening. The needle of a syringe was remained inserted to her left arm. An empty injection bottle and a handbag were found near the body.
