When human spaces grow crowded, animals often adapt in surprising ways. A recent viral video captures one such moment at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) campus, where a python was seen basking in the sun after swallowing a whole duck.
The footage shows the snake lying near a pond on campus, its swollen midsection revealing its meal. It appeared to be resting contentedly, as if declaring, “Stomach’s full; time to relax.” The unusual sight quickly spread across social media, amusing viewers while also sparking curiosity about wildlife behaviour.
According to reports, the python had consumed the duck on the banks of the campus pond before settling in for a post-meal break. However, its rest was short-lived. After being alerted, a forest department team arrived at the scene to safely capture and relocate the reptile. Upon sensing danger, the python unexpectedly regurgitated the duck—a move that stunned onlookers.
The clip, shared on Instagram by the account @naturemowgli, has garnered likes and comments. While some users urged authorities to “catch the python and release it safely”, others criticised the disruption, saying, “Let the poor thing eat in peace.” A few remarked on the courage it takes to approach such a large snake.
The incident has not only entertained viewers but also highlighted the encounters between wildlife and urban environments – encounters that can surprise, amuse, or even unsettle those who witness them.
