Jharsuguda: Days after a video featuring a security guard attending to patients at Laikera PHC (Primary Health Centre) in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district went viral, a doctor in-charge of the PHC at that time was transferred, a source said Friday.

According to the source, the Jharsuguda CDMO (Chief District Medical Officer) had ordered a probe after the video surfaced online and was widely shared. A five-member team conducted a probe and subsequently action was taken based on their report.

The absent doctor, identified as Tankeswar Budula, was transferred to Remata Primary Health Centre in Lakhanpur block following the probe.

The video featured a security guard deployed at Laikera PHC checking the blood pressure of a patient in absence of the doctor.

The source informed that in the absence of the doctors after 11 am, the security guard used to treat patients in addition to his duties as a security staff member. The security guard allegedly used to enter the names of the patients in the register, check their blood pressure and body temperature apart from prescribing medicines.

While the video clearly showed the guard checking blood pressure, prescribing medicine was an allegation OrissaPOST could not independently verify as the reaction of the concerned doctor and the guard could not be obtained.
