Sambalpur: Former Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) student Chinmayi Priyadarshini Sahoo had consumed alcohol before her death, police said Tuesday quoting the viscera report.
According to Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar, the viscera report showed presence of ethyl alcohol in the victim’s body. This confirms she had consumed alcohol before her death, he added.
In CCTV footage of a hotel in Burla, it can be seen that two persons consuming drinks. However, the actual cause of Chinmayi’s death is yet to be ascertained. The investigation is underway to know whether it was a suicide or a murder, Gangadhar said.
Earlier the diatom report and postmortem report confirmed that the victim died due to drowning.
It can be mentioned here that Chinmayi came from her native place Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi district to VSSUT February 28 for the convocation ceremony to obtain her degree. Later, she went to the Power Channel bridge with a male friend where she allegedly jumped off the bridge.
Police and Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation. They found her body March 1.
Burla police March 4 carried out lie detection or polygraph tests on Chinmayi’s two male friends — Pritiman Dey and Manas Tudu — at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar in connection with the suspicious death.
Notably, a viscera report is prepared to determine the cause of death under suspicious circumstances where autopsies are unconvincing and a diatom test is performed to ascertain whether the cause of death is drowning in water or not.
