Bhubaneswar: Police Tuesday arrested the hostel warden of a private college here for allegedly beating two students for scoring poor marks in examination, a senior police officer said.
Police arrested warden of the private college identified as Biswajit Rana after a video of the warden beating the two students went viral. The college authorities had lodged a complaint against the warden at Khandagiri police station Monday.
The college authorities said that they have dismissed the warden for resorting to corporal punishment.
“The police have arrested the warden based on the FIR lodged by the college after a video of the assault went viral,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anup Kumar Sahoo.
School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash said that the police have already taken action in this case.
After his arrest, the warden admitted the mistake and said: “I beat them up because of poor performance in the examination. It is a mistake to beat up the students.”
