A video going viral on social media reveals this shocking truth. In the video, when officials caught a labourer, he demonstrated how bananas are ripened by mixing chemicals in water.
Amazingly, the green bananas turned yellow in just one minute. This video is rapidly spreading online. Reports say that bananas are being dipped in a mixture of Ethephon, Propylene Glycol, and even battery water. This process makes bananas look ripe in no time. In many places, carbide is still being used despite being completely banned.

In the viral video, a man can be heard saying, “It is not my fault, I am just a labourer.” He then dips bananas into a chemical-filled bucket, and within a minute, the green bananas turn bright yellow.
Natural vs. chemically ripened bananas
Naturally ripened bananas have black stalks and dusty yellow peels with small black spots on the surface. These bananas stay fresh for 7–10 days. In contrast, chemically ripened bananas have green stems and a lemon-yellow peel that looks unnaturally clear, without spots. They spoil within 72 hours, rot quickly, and do not last long.
When carbide is mixed with water, it releases acetylene gas, which is also used in industrial welding. Dipping bananas in this solution generates heat that ripens them artificially. However, this heat and gas can enter the human body and cause serious health problems. That is why the government has banned its use. Despite this, chemically ripened bananas are still being sold openly in markets.
