Water level in Hirakud dam remains ‘stable’

Sambalpur: The water level in Hirakud Dam reservoir has remained unchanged for the past three days. The water level of reservoir by Friday morning was 598.39 ft, 598.39 ft Saturday and 598.62 ft Sunday, and it went up by 0.23 ft Sunday, said the Dam authorities.

However, in the absence of adequate and regular rainfall in the upper catchment areas of river Mahanadi, the water level of reservoir was declining every day and the storage level has been drastically low over the past 15 days.

According to sources, the upper catchment areas of the river had recorded a rainfall of 6.23 mm and 10.26 mm downstream Sunday.

Currently, inflow into the dam per second is 18,530 cusecs of water and nearly 3,639 cusecs of water is discharged every second.
