Rayagada, Oct 26: In a tragic incident, two of a nine member group of women from Visakhapatnam , who came to have a darshan of goddess Maa Majhighariani temple, drowned here in Nagabali river Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Imadri Jyoti(27), wife of E Shekhar and Singapuram Devi(21) of the port town Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
Imadri first slipped into the water, while cleaning her legs and then Singapuram, in a bid to save her, too fell into the water. The other seven members couldn’t save the two as they were some distance away from the place.
On being informed, fire brigade personnel fished out the bodies about a kilometer away from the place of mishap.
Rayagada police sent them to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
The nine women, salesgirls of a jewellery in Visakhapatnam, came to Rayagada to visit the temple as Thursday was their weekly off day. After their visit to the temple all had gone to see the hanging bridge on river Nagabali, a tourist destination, where the mishap occurred when two of them fell into the river water and were swept away by the current, it was learnt.
