Cuttack, Jan 6: Cricket is certainly a religion in India. If one has doubts, then it will disappear immediately, the moment, when one sees the physically-disabled Dharamveer Pal passionately following the game across all parts of India.
With both legs affected by polio, Dharamveer cannot stand. But that has not deterred him in watching and encouraging cricketers with enthusiasm. This Madhya Pradesh lad has attracted the attention of all and sundry at the Barabati Stadium here during the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 cricket tournament. Since 2006 the 35-year-old guy has been following cricket passionately.
“I am a fan of Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina. In this tournament I am supporting Uttar Pradesh,” stated Dharamveer. He has witnessed 150 ODIs, 50 Tests, matches in all the eight editions of the IPL and more than 200 domestic matches live in different stadiums so far since the last 11 years.
“I get full support from Dhoni. He provides me with tickets for all the international matches. Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association also gives me tickets for domestic matches,” informed Dharamveer.
Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) has also provided all support to this die-hard fan. OCA has arranged a seat in the corporate box for Dharamveer and is providing him meals twice a day. “I have come to Cuttack twice before. I am thankful to the OCA for their support and hospitality,” said an emotional Dharamveer.
