Kuchinda: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman delivered twins on a cot while she was being carried to a hospital here in Sambalpur district.
According to sources, Mukti Kindo (22) of Kanchamunda village under Gurundia block in Sundargarh district experienced labour pain Tuesday night. Being surrounded by hills, the village lacks a proper road.
So, her family members were forced to carry Mukti on a cot through dense forest late in the night. Later, due to darkness, the family members took rest until dawn as it was impossible for them to negotiate the forested track.
The family members again set off their journey shouldering the cot to reach Kuchinda government hospital early Wednesday morning. However, Mukti’s condition deteriorated mid-way after which she delivered twin boys on the cot, it was learnt.
After walking through the forest for 12 km, they reached neighbouring village Kelo from where they called an ambulance and admitted Mukti and the babies to Kuchinda government hospital.
The condition the mother and the babies is stable, medical authorities said. Although, Kanchamunda village, home to over 400 families, is in Sundargarh district, it is cut off from the district due to its geographical location.
The residents here depend on Kuchinda, which is 45 km away, for their day to day needs. The condition of the villagers worsens during rainy reason as rainwater washes off the foot track in the forest that locals use to reach Kuchinda. This has been the plight of the villagers for years with the administration turning a deaf ear to their pleas. PNN
