Nabarangpur: Padmabati Muduli, a woman of Aunligumma village in Lamtaguda panchayat under Tentulikhunti block Saturday committed suicide by drinking pesticide. She had to take the extreme step under debt burden and due to crop loss, it is alleged.
Padmabati, wife of Madhab Muduli had formed an SHG and took loan from a finance firm to start some business. However, she had to spend the money in cultivation due to urgency.
On the other hand, there was too pressure from the firm to repay the loan. The staff even threatened her to confiscate her house. Under pressure due to crop loss, Padmabati Friday night consumed pesticide. The family rushed her to a nearby hospital.
Later, she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital where she died. Leaders of various political parties demanded a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for Padmabati’s family.
