Bonai/Lahunipara: A 40-year-old woman was hacked to death with an axe, reportedly by her lover in Bhagaban Sahi under Mahulpada police limits in Sundargarh district, police said. The accused, identified as Shukra Munda, was arrested Sunday and produced in a Bonai court.
He was remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected. Police have seized the weapon used in the crime.
A murder case (12/26) has been registered in this connection, and further investigation is underway.
According to police, the deceased, Gurubari Munda, was living separately from her husband, Soma Munda.
She was reportedly in a relationship with the accused.
Friction had developed between the two in recent days.
The incident occurred when Shukra allegedly called Gurubari to his house Saturday night, where an argument broke out between them.
In a fit of rage, he allegedly attacked her with an axe, killing her on the spot.
The body was discovered Sunday morning, following which Soma informed police.
Mahulpada police IIC Sibashankar Alada reached the spot, seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. The body was later handed over to family members.
Police registered the case based on Soma’s complaint and detained Shukra for questioning.
During interrogation, the facts of the case were established, police said.
