Bari: A local girl, who was forced into marriage after being kidnapped by a youth, was allegedly raped by her father-in-law and her husband’s friends.
The matter came to the fore after the victim managed to flee her husband’s house in Bhubaneswar and lodged a complaint in the Bari police station Saturday. The incident triggered tension among locals as they demanded stringent action against the culprits. Police registered a case and started an investigation.
Police said the girl, a native of the area, was kidnapped by Jagannath Das of Kadambapal village under Balichandrapur police limits in Jajpur district, July 6, 2014. Later, Jagannath took her to Puri and married her at Srimandir.
After marriage, the couple first stayed at Baripada before shifting to Dhenkanal when the victim’s father-in-law Gopal Das visited them. There Gopal cast his lustful eyes on her and raped her in the absence of her husband.
The victim narrated her ordeal to her husband following which Jagannath left Dhenkanal and came to stay with her at Patia in Bhubaneswar.
Gopal even followed them to Bhubaneswar and raped her on various occasions. Her husband, however, remained silent to all these developments and did not speak a word against his father.
Worse, her husband ganged up with his father and threatened her of dire consequences if she reveals the matter before others. Later, even her husband’s friend visiting them gangraped her on various occasions taking advantage of her vulnerability. PNN
