Hyderabad: A 26-year-old man in Hyderabad allegedly bit off a woman’s finger during a heated argument over a monetary dispute, police said Monday.
The incident happened May 17 and the accused, Hemanth — an employee at a private firm — was arrested after a case was registered against him and his wife Mamatha based on a complaint by the victim’s daughter Sujitha, they said.
On May 17, Hemanth and his wife Mamatha visited their former landlord, Sujitha, to collect Rs 30,000 owed from a chit fund arrangement. The couple had vacated Sujitha’s penthouse earlier in April. However, Sujitha informed them of a Rs 5,000 deduction due to unpaid rent by a previous tenant, Supriya, whom Mamatha had recommended.
An argument ensued, and Sujitha’s mother, Latha, intervened to defuse the situation. During the confrontation, Hemanth allegedly bit off Latha’s right index finger. She was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed that the severed part could not be reattached.
Following a complaint filed by Sujitha, Madhura Nagar police arrested Hemanth. He has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and is currently in judicial custody.
