Rourkela, March 11: A 30-year-old woman Maoist, who was considered an explosives expert, Friday surrendered before the police at Bonai in Sundargarh district.
Susanti alias Muli Munda had left the outlawed outfit months ago but was hiding from both Maoists and the police fearing threat to her life.
She had joined the CPI (Maoist) in 2010 and a year later her husband Madhusudan alias Madhu Tarkot also joined the banned organisation. She was part of the Anmol alias Samarjee group operating in Saranda division, police said.
She was involved in several activities in Saranda jungle area between 2010 and 2015, particularly the Kolan area,” additional superintendent of police R Panigrahi said.
Muli was an armed cadre and also had acquired expertise on explosives.
Panigrahi said both Muli and her husband were part of the same division. Her husband died in an encounter with the police last November inside Gahmi jungle where she was also present.
Following the death of her husband she became ‘disoriented and uncomfortable’ in the organisation and with its ideology. Though she made several attempts to escape from the jungle life, Muli was forced to stay back, Panigrahi said, adding that she finally fled from a Maoist camp in January this year.
Muli hails from Nuagaon in West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand. PNN
