Cuttack: Tension ran high Thursday at a private hospital on Bajrakabati road in Cuttack following the death of a woman patient.
Accusing medical negligence, the family members ransacked the hospital.
According to reports, Subhadra Mohanty (25) of Shikharpur had consumed poison over some family dispute October 5. Her family members admitted the woman to the hospital.
The woman, who was showing signs of recovery till Wednesday, also talked with her relatives over phone.
Meanwhile the hospital authorities asked her family members to pay medical expenses, which reached Rs 80,000.
When the family members asked some more time to deposit money, her treatment was discontinued, they alleged.
She died Thursday morning, reports said.
The family members initially didn’t allow post-mortem of the body. Later, police pacified the family members and sent the body for post-mortem.
The deceased’s mother has registered a complaint with the police.
